Community – REMEMBER, it’s not ‘you vs exercise machines’
A big reason to train at a CrossFit gym versus training on your own or in a regular gym is for the community and family atmosphere.
Often in a regular gym, each person is given a personal program to follow and then works by themselves on machines. It can seem like hard, but also very lonely work and the enthusiasm quickly erodes.
CrossFit is an exercise program done in a small group, usually no more than 10 people. Participants encourage each other, support each other, help each other – and it’s fun!
Not just a ‘face in the crowd’
Even though CrossFit is a group activity the qualified and experienced CrossFit coaching staff keep a careful eye on each of the participants to make sure each one is safe and enjoying their workout.
All at once not a bit at a time
Regular gym sessions usually involve using different pieces of equipment, with each one working on a specific part of the body.
CrossFit works the whole body at once using simple equipment like medicine balls, or simply using your own body doing things like jumps, squats and lunges.
These movements (that we did naturally as children) are known as “functional movements” and they help you function better in your day-to-day life.
Start from where you are
Perhaps you are worried that you aren’t fit enough to start?
CrossFit participants all start with different levels of fitness and ability.
Each exercise will be modified by your CrossFit coach, whether you are an elderly person with health issues in your first session or a supreme athlete, and everybody in-between.
CrossFit routines will make you breathe hard and you’ll get a sweat on. However fit (or not!) you are to start with you’ll gradually get fitter and stronger!
